Prepare for More Late-Night Southbound 405 Closures

Patience will bring you permanent lane stripes and traffic speed detector loops.

Another series of overnight closures is in store for the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway starting at midnight Friday.

The southbound portion of the freeway will close from Getty Center Drive to Wilshire Boulevard, so crews can install permanent lane stripes and traffic speed detector loops, Metro said.

The closures will be in effect from midnight each night, Friday through Tuesday. The closed segment will reopen by 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and by 5 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Metro officials said today.

The southbound on-ramps at Getty Center Drive and westbound and eastbound Sunset Boulevard will also be closed during those periods.

Southbound traffic will detour to Sepulveda Boulevard and heavy traffic can be expected in the wee hours of the morning.

Northbound traffic on the San Diego Freeway into the San Fernando Valley will not be affected.

The project is one of the finishing touches to the $1.2 billion widening and modernization of the San Diego Freeway between the Ventura (101) and Santa Monica (10) freeways.
