Woodland Hills' 5 Things to Know Today: Sept. 16

Here's what's happening in and around Woodland Hills at-a-glance.

  1. We'd like to start today by wishing those who observe the high holy days l'shana tova. Rosh Hashanah, which literally means "head of the year," according to Chabad.org, and is what those of the Jewish faith believe is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve. It runs Sept. 16-18 this year. Happy new year.
  2. Catch a live piano performance from 1 to 4 p.m. at the mall, 6600 Topanga Canyon Blvd. Pianist Jeremy Weinglass performs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This project is supported as part of an Arts Development Fee from the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles.
  3. The Tapanga Police Station, which serves Woodland Hills, is hosting an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest at Canoga Park High School on Sept. 25. The event is part of a national skills competition for boys and girls in five separate age divisions ranging from 6-7 to 14-15. You can register online here.
  4. According to the National Weather Service, today's high will be around 99 degrees with a low of 64 degrees.
  5. The lowest price of gas in Woodland Hills, according to GasBuddy.com, is $3.99 per gallon at the Arco stations at 22004 Clarendon St. and 6310 Fallbrook Ave. and the Thrifty station at 6000 N. Canoga Ave.
