Woodland Hills Breaks Heat Record

Temperatures Thursday reach 109 degrees.

Woodland Hills was one of three Southland areas reaching record highs Thursday. Thermometers soared to 109 degrees here, breaking an old record for this day set in 2006.

Lancaster and Sandberg also broke records at 109 and 98 degrees, respectively. Lancaster's old record was set in 1980 and Sanberg's in 2002.

There's no doubt, Thursday was hot—but don't expect Friday to be much better.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning that remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday.

According to the service, heat index values, which take into account the air temperature and humidity are expected to reach or exceed 105 degrees again.
