Get Out for Some Weekend Fun: Aug. 10-12

Here are some events and activities taking place in and around the neighborhood this weekend.

We know you don't always stay in the neighborhood for the weekend, so here are some  events and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday in town and nearby. And best of all, they're all free!

The Comedy of Errors: Independent Shakespeare Company performs Comedy of Errors at 7 p.m. Friday and Sunday and 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Griffith Park (there is no physical address for the area, but the very near ranger station is at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive). See the company's site for detailed directions. Come early on Saturday and Sunday for pre-show entertainment. Note, the show is free, but donations are accepted.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: The Valley Cultural Center will screen Close Encounters of the Third Kind Saturday at its free, weekly Movies on the Green series. The movie starts at 7 p.m. at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills.

Kids Cooking Class: Epicurian and teacher Nancy Mehagian, author of The Supernatural Kids Cookbook, will teach a free cooking class for children at 11 a.m. at the Tarzana Whole Foods Market, 18700 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana. Book purchase is not required to attend the event, though they will be available and a portion of sales will benefit the Share Our Strength/End Hunger Network.

ABBA Tribute Concert: ABBA tribute band Arrival will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Warner Center Park as part of the Valley Cultural Center's free Concerts on the Green series.

Combolux Latin Music Concert: The city of Calabasas will combine its National Night Out and summer lake concert Sunday with the music of Combolux and representatives from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station. The free event takes begins at 6 p.m. at the Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center, 23400 Park Sorrento.
