Get Out for Some Weekend Fun: Aug. 17-19

Here are some events and activities taking place in and around the neighborhood this weekend.

We know you don't always stay in the neighborhood for the weekend, so here are some  events and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday in town and nearby.

Outdoor Movie Screening: Puss in Boots: The Valley Cultural Center is screening Puss in Boots for this week's Movie on the Green. The film begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills. This is a free event.

Film History Walk: King Gillette Ranch was home to MGM director Clarence Brown, who made movies on this popular filming location. Look behind the scenes at his filmmaking innovations and Hollywood parties on this free, easy 1-and-a-half-hour walk from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday. The ranch is at 26800 Mullholland Highway, Calabasas. Meet at the parking lot to the left of the pond.

Sky Star Party: The National Park Service will host a star-gazing party at the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center at Rancho Sierra Vista. The family-friendly event will include a constellation tour, a short night hike and telescope viewing with California Lutheran University's Dr. Mike Shaw. The event takes place from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Rancho Sierra Vista, located at Reino Road and Via Goleta in Newbury Park. Participants are encourage to bring flashlights.

Outdoor movie screening: A Woman of the World: The National Park Service and Silent Society of Hollywood Heritage will screen the 1925 silent film A Woman of the Wold as part of their Silents Under the Stars series at Paramount Ranch. The movie will be accompanied by live music. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Paramount Ranch, 2903 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills.

'Woodland Hillstock' with Jefferson Airplane: Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Paul Kantner and Marty Balin and Jerrerson Airplane will perform at the Valley Cultural Center's CConcert on the Green, taking place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills. Also appearing will be blues guitarist Dennis Jones, the Shoemaker Brothers and Stellar Sons and Daughters. This is a free event.
