Firefighters Knock Down Duplex Blaze

A woman suffered a burned arm and a smoke injury in a duplex fire in Topanga that killed a pet bird and left a dog missing, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 6:09 p.m. in one unit of the single-story structure at 5253 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., near Summit To Summit Motorway, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The first of 37 firefighters who responded found the apartment engulfed in flames, he said.

It took 13 minutes to knock down the fire, Humphrey said.

The injured woman was in fair condition with a moderate injury to one of her arms, according to Humphrey.

Firefighters were actively searching for the missing dog, he said.
