In Response to Connecticut Massacre, LAPD Patrols Woodland Hills Schools

The extra security measures are in response to the shootings of children and others at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

In response to a gunman's rampage at an elementary school in Connecticut, Los Angeles police are stepping up patrols at schools city-wide, including those in Woodlands Hills, a spokeswoman for the department said Friday in a phone interview.

"They're making their presence known, speaking with administrators, letting them know they are in the area," Officer Norma Eisenman of LAPD Media Affairs said shortly after 12 p.m. Dec. 14.

The extra security measures are in response to the shootings of children and others at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. News reports from Connecticut include unconfirmed estimates of as many as 27 people killed.

"There is no indication of a connection with Los Angeles,'' LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith told City News Service. "We train with and work with school police on an ongoing basis, and we will be providing extra patrols around schools - especially elementary schools - today."
