Meet the New Police Captain

Captain Joel Justice is the new commander of the LAPD's Topanga Division.

A new commander, Capt. Joel Justice, has been assigned to take the reigns at the station, which serves Woodland Hills as well as Canoga Park, West Hills and Winnetka. 

Yes, Captain Justice is his real name, and he's setting aside time to meet with community members next week. 

Justice, along with Senior Lead Officer Janet Zumstein will be at LA Fitness and Starbucks at the shopping center at Canoga Avenue and Victory Boulevard from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. July 24.

According to the LAPD website, Justice has been on the force since 1985 and has served in a number of areas of the city in a variety of roles including working patrol, Office of Operations, Use of Force Review Section and Internal Affairs. 

Most recently, Justice served in the Communications Division, which is the largest of the LAPD divisions, with about 590 employees. Before that, he he served as the commanding officer for the Real Time Analysis and Critical Response Division.

A second-generation LAPD officer, Justice was born in Los Angeles and raised in the San Fernando Valley.
