Police Station Offers Native Gardening Workshop, Seeks Volunteers

The Topanga Community Station hosts the workshop in preparation for its Oct. 20 native-plant landscaping event.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Topanga Station is getting a face lift.

On Saturday, Oct. 20, members of the department and community volunteers will plant a native-plant garden on the station grounds. In preparation for the event, there will be a free, open-to-the-community, native plants workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.

Lisa Novick of the Thomas Payne Foundation will present information about plants that are native to Southern California, the appropriate time to plant them, how to properly water them, how to install and care for native-plant gardens and the benefits of such gardens.

The workshop, the second of two, will take place will take place at the station at 21501 Schoenborn St., Canoga Park.
