Update: Canoga Park Standoff Continues

Police ask public to keep away from area.

Los Angeles police are working on a case involving a barricaded suspect in the 7300 block of Remmet Avenue in Canoga Park.

According to news reports, a woman called police at about 6 a.m. Thursday to report her husband was armed and upset after an arguement.

ABC 7 reported gunfire was heard in the area, but the media outlet did not know if the shots took place before or after the police arrived.

The identity of the man and the nature of the arguement has not been released.

At about 1 p.m., a series of six and then four shots that witnesses believed to have been rounds of tear gas were heard.

Next door neighbor Saul Ortiz said members of the SWAT team asked him to leave his house at around 7 a.m. Ortiz said the police were summoned to the house in question within the last few months when someone at the house fired gunshots into the air.

At 12:45 p.m., the LAPD released a statement saying officers were finishing up at the scene. However, as of 1 p.m. police were still sourrounding the house and nearby streets were blocked off to car and foot traffic.

The department is requesting that people stay away from of the area until the incident is clear.

No, it's in Canoga Park, and not Woodland Hills. All of us are being held "hostage" ourselves for some idiot heighbor's 3rd time in 3 months. Now there are 3 SWAT trucks and they still don't have him in custody!!!!

You're right Corinne - The first reports from the police said Woodland Hills. Police are still gathered and the SWAT team is still outside the house.
