Woodland Hills Accident Involves 6 Cars [Video]

A morning power outage may have contributed to the accident.

Six cars, three parked and three in motion, were involved in a Woodland Hills accident on Erwin Street at Owensmouth Avenue Sunday morning.

The accident sent six people to the hospital, according to police on the scene.

The collision occurred at 9:35 a.m. on Erwin Street at Owensmouth Avenue between the Anthem campus and the Warner Pines Apartment complex. Three of the cars involved were parked on Erwin Street adjacent to the apartments.

Police at the scene and at the Topanga Police Station were unable to say immediately what caused the accident. Non-functioning traffic lights could have been a contributing factor.

The lights were out due to a large power outage affecting an area extending from parts of Woodland Hills near Shoup Avenue and Ventura Boulevard to Canoga Park. The outage was due to a fire inside a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power substation, according to City News Service. The outage, which affected about 4,000 residents began at 9:17 a.m. and power was restored at 10:15 a.m.
