Woodland Hills Home of LA Pops Founder Goes on Sale

Carlo Spiga's four-bed, four bath home is on the market for $1,799,000.

LA Pops Orchestra founder Carlo Spiga's Woodland Hills house is on the market.

The 6,329-square-foot home was built in 1953 to accommodate private concerts and rehearsals, according to Matt Schroeder of Rodeo Realty, which is listing the house.

"He enjoyed entertaining and was known for cultivating a circle of eager guests at the villa. Guests were treated to a sensorial experience of the villa with live music, dancing, food and beautiful panoramas amidst the sounds of trickling water and the scent of jasmine and fragrant roses which permeated the property," Schroeder wrote in a statement about Spiga and the property.

In addition to the main house, which has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, there are two smaller homes on the 30,000 square foot lot, according to Zillow.com. There is a completely self-contained attached one-bedroom, one-bathroom private cottage and a detached two-bedroom, two-bath house.

Credited with bringing pop music to Los Angeles audiences at a time when choices for live classical music were limited to one major symphonic orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He founded the Los Angeles Pops Orchestra in 1977.

Spiga was born in Rome, Italy and began his musical career after studying at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. He began the study of the violin at the age of 5 and went on to include piano at 7.
