Heat Wave: LAUSD Could Limit Student Outdoor Activity

Los Angeles Unified School District takes precautions to keep the Southland heat wave from impacting children and teachers.

With thousands of students back in classrooms on Tuesday for the first day of school, Los Angeles Unified School District officials said they were taking precautions to keep the Southland heat wave from impacting children and teachers.

District officials said students were given frequent water breaks and steps were taken to ensure that windows and doors were closed in air-conditioned rooms.

Limits were placed on outdoor physical activities, such as recess and competitive sports, according to the LAUSD.

Depending on temperatures as the heat wave continues, students and staff could be moved to cooler areas of campuses or be prohibited from going outdoors for extended periods, district officials said.
