State Academic Decathlon: El Camino Real Takes Super Quiz

Four Los Angeles Unified teams sweep the top four spots in the super quiz. Overall results will be announced Sunday.

El Camino Real won the super quiz today, leading a sweep by Los Angeles Unified School District schools of the top four spots as the 35th Annual California Academic Decathlon concluded in Sacramento.

El Camino Real had 93 points, one more than Marshall. Granada Hills Charter was third with 91, and Franklin was fourth with 82. Hamilton and Campolindo tied for fifth with 79, according to unofficial results released by organizers.

Overall results will be announced on Sunday. The winner will advance to compete against other state winners at the national championship, which will be held April 24-26 in Honolulu.

The decathlon's speech and interview portions were also conducted today. The decathlon began Friday with tests in art, science, economics, music, social science, language and literature and mathematics. The study topic was World War I.

There are 25 Los Angeles County schools competing in the state decathlon. Marshall was the highest scorer in qualifying competitions. Granada Hills Charter is the three-time defending national champion and Mark Keppel High School of Alhambra won the Los Angeles County Office of Education's Academic Decathlon.
