How do we know that Michaels, like Target before it, are not doing this themselves to get everyoneRead More to give up what little freedom we have left? Maybe News12 will investigate? No, that's right... News12 is just a glorified police blotter.

Just so everyone knows, chip and pin would not prevent a breach like this, it would just make itRead More difficult to reproduce a physical card. The real answer is prevent breaches like this is uninterrupted end to end encryption between the PED/swipe and the processor. So many retailers allow the credit card data to flow within their respective networks to be decrypt/re-encrypt 1 or more times paving way to the methods used by malicious folks to harvest that data while in the clear, such as memory scrapers.
Vito Spago April 19, 2014 at 02:11 am
It is becoming obvious that it is time to cut up credit cards and go to cash.

With prices rising in all industries, I call it the disease of liberal Democrats! And it is theRead More disease that will wipe out civilization!
mark April 18, 2014 at 05:23 am
When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

Let's see now. LA City starts new trash program which will kill some small business and certainlyRead More result in layoffs. Now SCE going to be laying off 900 plus. Now looking too good there, SoCal.
OldTimer April 16, 2014 at 08:34 am
Well, this is what they call 'progress', folks. Think about it. Not long ago they installed theRead More 'smart meters', right? Well, with 'smart meters' you don't need meter readers, do you? So this has nothing at all to do with democrats or republicans. Let's stop going there. It's about cutting costs with technology. Remember when garbage trucks were 2 man units? I do. Those were back the days when the men manually hoisted the cans and dumped the garbage in the trucks. Well, now the trashing dumping is automated and only a driver is needed. Sorry, folks. That's called 'progress', like it or not. Those layed off garbage men and meter readers need to reinvent themselves and find other work in another industry. But let's not make this political. That's so absurd.

Whether Dodger games will be seen on DirecTV this year is still up in the air. Patch file photo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Time Warner was milking this to get more subscribers. I've had TimeRead More Warner, and I'd rather have no TV at all than deal with them again.
John April 4, 2014 at 12:24 pm
Dodgers , Giants, baseball. Who cares. Nothing but a bunch of drunken thug gang members in theRead More stands. I certainly don't need to pay for it when I don't watch it.
Ed W April 4, 2014 at 12:27 pm
I am a Dodger fan, but I don't want my basic DirecTV bill to go up for this channel. I realizeRead More that, but for the money paid by TWC, the Dodgers would not have the money to go out and purchase such a talented team. However, only those who want to pay for SportsNet should be charged. By the way, the quality of the picture on my TV significantly improved when I switched from TWC to DirecTV, so I won't go back for the Dodgers or anything else.

HOW is it the App's fault? That's like blaming the telephone for the conversation.

With Yik Yak there is no way to trace who made threats against people or property. On the otherRead More hand, most apps such as Patch require you to sign in with an email before selecting a moniker; thus, inappropriate posts can be traced. There is really no reason for students at a high school or middle school to have the ability to post anonymously without recourse on this or any other site. In fact, the app is meant for people over 17 years old; yet, there is no way to police the age of the anonymous users. Glad it is blocked around middle and high schools.

@ MFriedrich; I would hope that Most McD franchisees would not be so immoral as to rob theirRead More employees like these ones did. I am sure that the majority of the Franchisees abhor the kind of publicity that this has generated. And besides, if they are ethical and follow the law, they have nothing to worry about. I understand your point about "oversteering" but the other side of the coin is that this behavior would continue and perhaps even spread if not dealt with, swiftly and surely. This was absolutely the best, and probably the only, action to make sure this illegal behavior did not continue. And now McD corporate will make sure that it does not continue. Those employers who currently offer OT hours and pay to their employees will continue to do so...they have done nothing wrong. They are most likely as irritated by these franchisees/managers actions and immoral behavior as we are. Like I said, no one wants this kind of publicity!

Pay these people what they have coming to them. They deserve the overtime pay and not the shaft. TheRead More prices may go up and maybe the top of the organization may have a pay cut, but don't take the money from the people that need it the most. I do not understand the greed of some people. So you have to pay an additional $.50 for your Big Mack. What kind of greedy (bad word) would be so stingy to keep these people from getting paid. Shame on all of you that are against this!
andy k. liberman March 17, 2014 at 04:09 pm

maintenance, change to summer blend. Had a father-in-law in charge of a Gulf refinery in Santa FaRead More Sprngs. There were many refineries in the 70's and 80's. Now there are fewer refineries to process gas. A good way to keep cost of gas high. One refinery has a problem gas price goes up. So with the billions oil companys make, how about building more refineries to so when one goes down there are enough to keep up the supply. That will never happen, to much money to be made making a gas shortage.
Robert Lia March 13, 2014 at 12:00 pm
I don't know where you buy your gas, but prices have been over $4 a gallon for weeks.

Let me tell you what it's like: I was laid off last May. I am 47 years old and I have never beenRead More fired, laid off or out of work since the age of 15. I am a College Graduate, I can't find a job and I am nit willing to take a pay cut nor will I lower myself to signing up for Obamacare. I don't know who's a bigger ass him or the ass I worked for.

All of these leaders are responsible if the LA economy crashes and burns so of course they are goingRead More to say all is well. Guaranteed there will be higher interest rates and higher costs for everyone including businesses thanks to Obamacare premiums. That means less money to spend and less people to hire. If that is good news, you have to be nuts.

Francis Soyer: Point of information if you will. When one is going to install the new LED light bulbRead More which would be the preferred choice? The MiracleLED Un-Edison 60W Equivalent Frost or the Samsung A19 60-Watt Warm White. From the knowlege you demonstrated above I thought I would ask an expert.
Francis Soyer January 30, 2014 at 07:27 am
Vincent - Honestly I'm not too familiar with either product. Neither is an "industryRead More standard" name brand. Samsung is obviously know for their electronics, I don't know if they are actually manufacturing their LED's or using somebody else's, but Samsung generally has good products. MiracleLED, unknown??? However I did a quick search on both. Samsung: 10.8 watts, 810 lumens, 27,000k, 15,000 hrs, 130 degree beam angle. MiracleLED: 5 watts, 500 lumens, 27,000k, 30,000 hrs, they claim "360 degree lighting" but do not list an actual beam angle, but it would certainly be much greater then the 130 on the Samsung. I would look at application first. Can you see the bulb in the fixture you are putting it in? If so the Samsung's heat sink is very visible and if it were in a glass fixture that I could clearly see the bulb I wouldn't want to see the Samsung bulb, I would pick the MiracleLED even though just by first appearance the Samsung looks like it is made better. I think the only application I would use the Samsung would be in a can light as the light output is more directional especially if I needed more light as the Samsung puts out 60% more light. Both seem to be priced at about $16 each. The more recognized LED name brands are Cree & Nochia, also, GE, Phillips & Sylvania make them as well. I like the "Cree 60W equivalent soft white (2700K) A19 dimmable LED light bulb", sold at Home Depot & Lowes.

Stephen D. Clark January 18, 2014 at 08:03 am
Baloney. The "disgusting" president was the one who falsely alleged a threat to theRead More national security of the United States in order to dishonestly justify the Invasion of Iraq, which condemned 4,486 American armed forces members (http://icasualties.org/) to futile deaths and sparked a conflagration that has consumed the lives of what has been scientifically estimated as well over a million Iraqis (http://www.globalresearch.ca/new-analysis-confirms-1-million-iraq-casualties/7950).

don't expect employers to call you back. most managers are busy and they can forget things. callRead More them a few days after the interview. good news is their are jobs... if you want to work retail for 8 bucks/hour. who can live on that? hard to not take it personally. I applied for a driver at pizza hut... was turned down via email, no meeting, no interview... I have lots of work experience, no criminal record, no accidents or points... no drug issues... how can they turn me down based on a resume and email? my age I'm guessing.
