Patch: When and how did Juniper & Lane Vintage get started?
Cynthia Lodwig: After many years as an elementary school science teacher, I decided to combine my lifelong love of all things vintage with my dream of owning a shop. My goal was to curate a unique, chic, and affordable shop with an environmentally sustainable business model. Juniper & Lane became a reality and opened its doors on November 9, 2013.
Patch: What's your business known for?
Lodwig: We have compiled an eclectic combination of vintage and contemporary clothing, accessories, jewelry, home décor, and furnishings, including a selection of designer goods. The shop also hosts a variety of local artists, particularly those who work with recycled, vintage, or repurposed materials. This focus is part of our theme of environmental sustainability.
Patch: What's unique about your business?
Lodwig: Creating Juniper & Lane as a green business was very important to both myself and my daughter Christina Catania, who has a degree in molecular environmental biology from UC Berkeley. From our wind-powered web host to our 100% recycled business cards and gift bags, we strive for envi-ronmental sustainability in every aspect of our small business. We are a family-owned shop that caters to a wide clientele encompassing youthful trendsetters to savvy grandparents; males and females from 14 to 104 enjoy a browse through the shop's ever-changing mix. Anyone one who appreciates a unique and beautiful selection of vintage goods at reasonable price points will enjoy their shopping experience at juniper & lane.
Patch: What's the best part the neighborhood you are located in?
Lodwig: juniper & lane is nestled among a sprinkling of new businesses on Ventura Blvd. at Fallbrook Ave. in Woodland Hills including: California Cozy - a luxury shop with a lovely array of gifts for new moms & babies; My Big Day, a bridal salon with stunning dresses for mother-of-the-bride/groom along with gorgeous attendant gowns; and D & D Aquariums, which is as close to bringing the kids to the Camarillo Aquarium as you will get without leaving the valley! Anchoring our block is Kennedy Surf Shop, which has been a west valley staple for decades. Our neighborhood also boasts the presence of the Headline Salon, Giovanni's Restaurant and the Local Peasant.
Patch: If you could give your customers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Lodwig: Reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose; Celebrate decades past by embracing your unique style and environmental consciousness: SHOP VINTAGE!
